Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Clinical Microbiology Lab is currently seeking a Medical Lab Assistant on the evening shift and will be responsible for all laboratory operations.

Our innovative clinical laboratories provide sophisticated technology and automated equipment that allow our teams to get to answers faster and more efficiently, with a strong emphasis on applied and translational research. It's an exciting time for the Laboratory Medicine Department as many of our teams have recently moved into our new innovative laboratory medicine facility on East 64th Street! Our new Laboratory Medicine Building improves operational efficiency, allowing our Laboratory Medicine team to provide test results more quickly and reduce the amount of blood needed from a patient to generate those results. Role Overview:

  • Prepares specimens for analyzing or sending out to another laboratory for testing.
  • Sort specimens according to location; Places and sorts labeled specimen on racks/bins and transports to appropriate processing area.
  • Makes arrangements for pickup of specimens (e.g., main lab STAT specimens, reference laboratories).
  • Maintain supplies for the processing area  (e.g., requisitions, special tubes, shipping labels, biohazards bags, shipping logs, etc)
  • Resolves specimen delivery issues for any specimens sent to another laboratory for testing.
  • Assists with specimen archiving, including capping of tubes and discarding of older specimens when expired.
  • Performs waived testing as per SOP under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Prepares specimens for sending out to another laboratory utilizing the laboratory computer system.

Key Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience in a clinical laboratory as a Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant or related job.
  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Shift: 5 AM to 1 PM Tuesday to Saturday
