Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the A. Ari Hakimi Lab as a Research Technician!

The Hakimi Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center studies the immune and metabolic regulation of the renal cell carcinoma (RCC) microenvironment, to uncover critical mechanisms and biomarkers of response to current systemic therapies that include immune checkpoint blockade and angiogenesis-targeted therapies. We are a highly translationally-minded lab with combined expertise that effectively bridges clinical and preclinical research. We collaborate widely on interests in T cell biology under immune checkpoint blockade therapy, CAR-T cell engineering, as well as genomic and epidemiological (sex and obesity) drivers of immuno-metabolic dysregulation in cancer. Our lab also engineers novel mouse models of RCC that more accurately reflect the genomic profiles of human kidney cancer, providing important tools for the study of heterogenous RCC subtypes in mice with fully functional immune systems. A new hire would work flexibly alongside other research technicians to expand our internal human biobank with a focus on processing fresh surgical specimens for cutting edge omic technoliges, as well as maintaining our genetically engineered mouse colonies for experimentation. Our lab is commited to fostering a rich learning environment, thus there will be an opportunity for the successful candidate to nurture an independent research project under postdoc mentorship. The new hire will be expected to master many in vitro and in vivo techniques and will receive broad training and mentorship at the forefront of translational medicine. Due to these training efforts, we require a minimum 2 year commitment.

Role Overview:

• Techniques & Assays: Conduct common and apecialised assays including mammalian cell culture, organoid culture, mouse genotyping using DNA electrophoresis, western blotting, flow cytometry processing, sorting and acquisition, human and mouse tissue processing for single cell RNA-sequencing, PBMC isolation and cryopreservation, CRISPR/cas9 genome engineering, cell counting.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including mouse handling, breeding, injections (intraperitoneal, intravenous, subcutaneous), kidney ultrasound imaging, animal autopsies, tissue and blood collection. Poential for mouse renal injection surgical training.
• Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, and other essential supplies.
• Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide updates to the research team in lab meetings.
• Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology/life sciences.
• Basic laboratory skills.
• Comfort working with animals.

Core Skills:

• Attention to detail and strong record-keeping habits. 
• Ability to follow protocols while troubleshooting when needed. 
• Team-oriented approach to supporting postdocs and fellow researchers. 
• Adaptability in a dynamic lab environment.
