As part of our educational mission, MSK is proud to offer unique learning opportunities to students from grade 9 through medical school. On this page you will find an overview of our current education programs with open applications.
MSK offers the following opportunities for students in high school to explore career paths of interest and gain experience:
Summer Student Program
The MSK Summer Student Program is designed for high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical sciences.
Applications for 2026 will open on December 1, 2025. Please click here to apply.

Bridge to Biostats Summer Program (B2BSP)
The Bridge to Biostats Summer Program is a paid 7-week, in-person summer experiential learning program that aims to provide opportunities in data science and computing to New York City high school students, including those from under-resourced communities. Members of groups historically underrepresented in medicine and science (including but not limited to individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, women, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and persons with disabilities) are strongly encouraged to apply.
All application materials are due by 5pm on Friday, February 20th.
B2BSP 2026 will run from Monday, June 29th to Friday August 14th.

The Tri-Institutional PhD Program in Chemical Biology and the Office of Science Education & Training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are very pleased to invite applications for the Chemical Biology Summer Program (ChBSP). This 10-week program is designed to bring outstanding chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical biology undergraduate rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of chemistry and biomedicine for a research experience on the Weill Cornell, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Rockefeller University campuses. Applicants must have chemistry experience.

Computational Biology Summer Program (CBSP)

This 10-week program is designed to bring approximately 15 outstanding computer science/applied math undergraduate rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of computer science and biomedicine for a research experience on the Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell, and Rockefeller University campuses.

Mechanistic Biology Summer Program (MBSP)
Memorial Sloan Kettering and the Gerstner School of Biomedical Sciences are pleased to invite applicants to the Mechanistic Biology Summer Program. The program will host ten outstanding undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical sciences. This program is designed for those who wish to gain research experience exploring fundamental questions in biology. Students will have the opportunity to work with faculty in the fields of developmental, immuno, structural, molecular, cell, and cancer biology. At the time the application is submitted, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program and enrolled in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year of study.

Engineering and Imaging Summer Program (EISP)
Memorial Sloan Kettering and the Gerstner School of Biomedical Sciences are pleased to invite applications for the Engineering and Imaging Summer Program (EISP). EISP is designed to bring together undergraduate rising juniors and seniors interested in engineering, molecular imaging, and/or biomedicine for a summer research experience in labs at Memorial Sloan Kettering that are developing new technologies and techniques to solve fundamental problems in biology and to better understand, diagnose, and treat cancer.

Quantitative Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience (QSURE)
The QSURE internship program is designed for motivated undergraduate students with a passion for quantitative science. Each student will be paired with an expert mentor to work on an individual, data-driven research project that aims to answer pressing questions in cancer. The program will provide hands-on skills in biostatistics, epidemiology, health outcomes, and/or computational oncology. The QSURE program is supported by the National Cancer Institute (R25 CA214255) and the MSK Society.

QSURE 2026 will run from Monday, June 1st to Friday, August 7th.
Clinical Oncology Open Learning Scholars Program (COOL)
The Clinical Oncology Open Learning (COOL) Scholars Program is a four-week summer internship designed to encourage undergraduate students to consider careers as cancer physicians. Students apply to shadow clinicians at one of MSK’s regional network sites across New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester.
Program Dates: 6/01/2026 - 6/30/2025

Summer Clinical Oncology Research Experience (SCORE)
The Summer Clinical Oncology Research Experience (SCORE) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is an eight-week summer program designed to encourage undergraduate students to consider careers in cancer research as well as to build a community through an exciting earning experience.
At SCORE, students work on a research project with their mentors. In addition, SCORE offers educational talks, interactive workshops, and opportunities for clinical observation, resulting in a robust and comprehensive summer program.

Clinical Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE)
The Department of Medicine Clinical Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) welcomes undergraduate rising sophomores and juniors who are interested in exploring careers in biomedical research to participate in a summer experience. The aim of the CURE program is to provide students a background in research in clinical medicine. The program consists of an 8-week experience at MSK.

The MSK Engage program aims to provide New York City undergraduate students from groups historically underrepresented in biomedical fields with two years of research experience in MSK labs to help them become competitive candidates for graduate school or professional positions as lab technicians.

Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Service Internship Program
The Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Service Internship Program sponsors students to work as interns under the direct supervision of a faculty member or senior staff member. Interns contribute to the service’s work, enrich their understanding of data, learn about community outreach and research administration, and perform specific tasks and present their results. Interns learn about the wider MSK community at seminars and other events offered throughout the institution.

MSK Bridge: For recent college graduates
The MSK Bridge program aims to provide post-baccalaureate trainees from groups historically underrepresented in medicine with a strong foundation in science and research, as well as guided mentoring that will help them successfully transition into biomedical PhD programs.

Surgical Scholars Program: For recent college graduates
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Department of Surgery is launching a competitive program designed to provide research experience for post-baccalaureate or gap year students interested in pursuing an academic career in medicine. Applicants will be selected for this one-year program that will introduce selected scholars to clinical surgical research or translational/basic science research.
Application Deadline is February 1 and decisions will be announced March 15. Surgical Scholars are one year positions that typically begin on July 1 and run through June 30 of the following year. Surgical Scholars are paid Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center employees.
Requirements for application include:

This 10-week program is designed to bring outstanding biology, immunology, and biochemistry undergraduate rising juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of immunology, biology and oncology to pursue a research experience at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Genomics Experience for Master’s Students (GEMS)
Genomics Experience for Master’s Students (GEMS) is a 12-week program for master’s level quantitative scientists that aims to create an immersive experience for the student to engage in real-world team science projects and learn to apply and translate their quantitative skills into meaningful scientific contributions in cancer medicine with a focus on cancer genomics and precision oncology. This full-time, on campus research experience allows students to fully engage with mentors and a multidisciplinary research team on cutting-edge projects with the goal to propel them into genomics-oriented data science careers. Each fellow will have two mentors – one quantitative/computational mentor and one scientific mentor – to provide a highly interdisciplinary and immersive training environment and will prepare students for the interdisciplinary translational science workforce. Trainees must demonstrate a strong interest to learn cancer genomics and need not have experience in this area.

Memorial Sloan Kettering’s mission is the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, clinical research, and education. Dedicated to this mission, our educational programs offer students experience in research and clinical oncology. For more information on these programs, please email medstudent@mskcc.org.
Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship
This summer program exposes students to the unique MSK scientific environment. Medical students, who are between the first and second years of school, work on research projects under the mentorship of MSK faculty members. While pursuing their research activities, students attend programs led by preeminent cancer researchers and innovators in cancer care. In this way, students gain exposure to the rigors of scientific investigation within the context of an academic cancer center, with an emphasis on precision medicine. Launched in 1977, this program has enabled over 1,500 medical students to contribute to the research enterprise of a premier academic medical center. The program aims to enhance the students’ knowledge about cancer and to stimulate research careers in this discipline.
