Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Specialist I, Patient Financial Services - New York

Join MSK as a Specialist I, Patient Financial Services Specialist and play a vital role in connecting patients to care. Guide patients through insurance verification, authorizations, and financial counseling, ensuring access to critical treatments. Partner with clinical and administrative teams to streamline processes, improve reimbursement, and support the patient experience.

Role Overview

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff, patients, and insurance carriers to ensure access to care and optimal reimbursement

  • Act as a representative of Patient Financial Services, securing and verifying patient and insurance information

  • Counsel new patients before their first appointment, obtaining referrals and/or authorizations

  • Register patient demographics and insurance details into the billing system, ensuring documentation is complete before appointments

  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain pre-certification for services such as chemotherapy, radiology, therapies, and supportive drug treatments

  • Communicate verification and authorization outcomes to patients, clinical teams, and administrative staff

  • Explain patient financial responsibilities, calculate deposits when necessary, and review payment options for uncovered services

  • Identify problem accounts, refer them for resolution, and monitor outcomes

  • Participate in special projects such as process improvement, data analysis, and investigations into account trends

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance processes and billing procedures

  • Familiarity with pre-certification and reimbursement guidelines

  • Ability to stay current on insurance and compliance regulations

  • Strong communication skills to engage patients, staff, and insurance carriers effectively

  • Detail-oriented approach to data entry, verification, and compliance monitoring

  • Problem-solving ability to identify and resolve account or reimbursement issues

  • Collaborative mindset for working across teams to support patient care and financial access

Additional Information:

  • Schedule: This is a hybrid role; Following training period, on site presence will be needed 2-3 times a week. When on site, the hours are 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST. When at home, the hours are 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM EST. There is a rotating weekend shift once every 5 weeks, this will be remote from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST.
