Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Associate Lab Director, Gene Editing & Screening Core Facility

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking an accomplished and innovative Associate Lab Director to join the Gene Editing & Screening (GES) Core Facility within a highly interactive basic and translational research community! MSK offers an exceptional scientific environment within a multi‑institutional academic ecosystem, where pioneering technologies directly support discovery and patient‑focused cancer research.
In this role, the Associate Lab Director will partner closely with the Core Facility Director to advance functional genomics, high‑throughput screening (HTS), and high‑content screening (HCS) capabilities in support of MSK investigators.

Role Overview:

  • As Associate Lab Director, you will balance scientific leadership with operational and financial oversight to ensure the GES Core Facility remains a pioneering, sustainable resource for MSK investigators.
  • Partner with the Core Facility Director to define short‑, medium‑, and long‑term scientific strategy aligned with MSK research priorities
  • Lead and support functional genomics initiatives, including CRISPR and RNAi‑based screening platforms
  • Oversee development and optimization of advanced methods, assays, and screening technologies (HTS/HCS; live and fixed cell imaging)
  • Provide scientific consultation to investigators and liaise with the broader scientific community
  • Lead day‑to‑day operations, including workflow optimization, resource allocation, and service delivery
  • Ensure financial stewardship by developing and leading budgets and meeting operational financial goals
  • Lead hiring, training, mentoring, and career development of scientific staff
  • Champion a culture of mentorship, performance excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Represent MSK at external conferences and NCI/NIH‑sponsored meetings

Key Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology settings
  • Deep expertise in CRISPR and RNAi technologies and their application to drug discovery and development
  • Demonstrated experience with gene perturbation strategies, KI/KO cell line generation, viral production, and assay development
  • Hands‑on knowledge of chemical compound libraries, automated liquid handling, plate readers, and high‑speed confocal imaging systems
  • Experience developing and leading budgets in partnership with internal stakeholders
  • Consistent record leading laboratory staff and overseeing complex laboratory operations
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Additional Information:

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 37.5 hrs, Onsite (may have the flexibility to work remotely once a week)
  • Location: 417 E. 68th Street, NYC
  • Reporting to: Core Director
