Hours & Location 

Seeking volunteers to support the Radiation Oncology team at the below locations. Placements are based on scheduling needs and applicant availability.  Please indicate all shifts you are available for in your application. 

 

  • Koch Center - 530 East 74th St, New York, NY 10021  

Shifts available: Monday –Friday, 9 AM – 12 PM, 12 PM – 3 PM, 3 PM – 6 PM. 

  • Memorial Hospital - 1275 York Ave, New York, NY 10065  

Shifts available: Monday–Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM, 1 PM – 5 PM, 5 PM – 9 PM. 

 

Volunteer Opportunity 
We are seeking reliable and committed volunteers available for a weekly 3 or 4-hour shift.  Volunteers support the Radiation Oncology care team by assisting with patient flow, communication, and comfort, helping ensure a smooth, welcoming, and well-coordinated clinic experience.  

 
As a volunteer, you may: 

  • Support patient flow - escort patients and provide general navigation support within the facility as needed.  

  • Assist with communication between patients, clinic front desk staff, nurses, and treatment teams as a liaison.  

  • Support the front desk staff of the clinic by updating patients on wait times, providing locker room/changing instructions, and escorting patients to their appointments.  

  • Help with rooming patients and wheelchair transport.  

  • Provide non-clinical comfort items such as warm blankets, water, or ice.  

  • Keep the unit stocked with necessary supplies, such as blankets in the blanket warmer.   

  • Help staff keep the unit clean and organized, ensuring patient changing rooms are tidy, wiping down equipment with germicide wipes, or moving patient handling devices as directed by staff. 

 

Who We’re Looking For  

  • Age 16+ 

  • Able to commit to a weekly 3 or 4-hour shift for at least 6 months 

  • If you are a former or current MSK patient, you must be out of active treatment for at least one year 

  • Comfortable standing and walking around for extended periods of time. 

 

Onboarding Process (average 4–6 weeks)  

  • Virtual interview (based on scheduling needs and program fit) 

  • 2–3 reference checks 

  • Background check & drug screen (18+ only

  • Medical clearance (flu and other immunizations required; at applicant’s expense) 

 

*To stay active in the program, onboarding must be completed within 4-6 weeks. If your application is pending any onboarding tasks for 30+ days, your application may be rejected.

This is an unpaid volunteer role. The Volunteer Department does not oversee paid employment, internships, shadowing, or educational programs. Our program provides meaningful, long-term opportunities to support patients and staff.
