Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the Schietinger Lab as a Research Technician!

Dr. Andrea Schietinger’s Lab in the Immunology Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center uses cutting-edge mouse cancer models and clinical patient samples to investigate immune responses in the contexts of cancer, infection, and autoimmunity, and design and test innovative therapeutic interventions!

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Research Technician interested in preclinical mouse models and clinical patient samples to join the lab in spring/summer of 2026 for a minimum 2-year commitment. This is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate with a science background who wants a project-focused research experience for a minimum of 2-3 years before going on to graduate school training programs. Duties and responsibilities include: 1. managing mouse colony 2. general lab upkeep including maintaining lab inventory and ordering 3. assisting lab members with experiments 4. carrying out experiments.

Role Overview:

  • Managing mouse colony, including transgenic and knockout mouse strains, carrying out genotyping, and managing the colony database
  • Administration of medications to mice via intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes
  • Monitoring mice health and tumor development
  • General lab upkeep, including preparing reagents, and ordering and maintaining lab inventory.
  • Analyzing tissues from mice and humans by flow cytometry.
  • Culturing mouse and human cell lines and carrying out transfection/transduction.
  • General lab upkeep, including maintaining lab inventory and ordering.

Key Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or related field.
  • Previous lab experience in biology/biomedical research.
  • Experience working with mice, including drug administration and genotyping, carrying out mouse bleeds and necropsies, isolation and preparation of mouse tissues for antibody staining, and analysis by flow cytometry is desired.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, including primer design, PCR, and cloning, is preferred.
  • Experience with mammalian cell tissue culture and sterile technique.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members
  • Ability to learn new techniques and work independently once objectives are explained.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including data management, R programming, and literature/web searches to develop protocols and methods a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Location: NYC; Zuckerman Research Center
  • Schedule: Onsite, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm
