Exciting Opportunity at MSK: We are seeking a Supervisor, Histology to support the day-to-day operations of our Autopsy, IHC, Digital scanning and Histology services. This role partners closely with the Histology Manager and pathologists to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient laboratory operations while providing hands-on leadership to a diverse technical team. The Supervisor plays a key role in staff development, workflow optimization, and maintaining the technical excellence that supports MSK’s mission of exceptional patient care. In addition, this role oversees operations of the evening shift technical and non-technical areas, ensuring adequate coverage, appropriate oversight, and timely escalation of issues as needed.
Role Overview:
Support the Histology Manager in overseeing daily operations of the Autopsy, IHC, Digital Scanning and Histology laboratories.
Provide direct supervision and guidance to histotechnologists, lab aides, dieners, and gross room assistants
Serve as a technical resource for staff and physicians, assisting with complex procedures, troubleshooting, and special projects
Ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, quality control, and safety requirements
Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and workflow to meet routine, urgent, and same-day diagnostic needs
Oversee staff training, onboarding, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development
Monitor laboratory operations, equipment performance, and procedural workflows; recommend and implement improvements
Perform routine and specialized histology procedures as needed to support workload and staffing needs
Oversee the operations of the evening shift technical and non-technical areas, ensuring adequate coverage, appropriate oversight, and timely escalation of issues as needed.
Key Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related physical science from a NYSED-registered (or equivalent) licensure-qualifying program
4–7 years of progressive histology laboratory experience
Active New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Histotechnologist License

Additional Information:
Schedule - 3-11 pm or 4 pm – 12 am, Mon-Friday
Location - Main hospital campus, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY
Reports to - Associate Director, Laboratory Medicine
