Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Director – Epic Technology Services (Infrastructure & Environment)  

 

As Director – Epic Technology Services (Infrastructure & Environment), you’ll shape the vision, operations, and technical excellence behind MSK’s Epic platform—powering the systems that help us deliver world-class cancer care. Reporting to the VP of Epic Systems, you’ll lead the strategy for infrastructure, environment planning, release management, and device integration that ensures our Epic ecosystem runs seamlessly and securely. You’ll collaborate closely with Epic Hosting, Technical Coordinators, and MSK’s enterprise technology teams to drive performance, resilience, and innovation. 

 

This is a high-impact leadership role guiding multiple technical domains and influencing enterprise direction. You’ll partner with Epic Application Directors and Managers to align technology strategy with institutional goals, champion operational readiness, and lead complex problem-solving that shapes the future of digital healthcare at MSK. 

 

Role Overview 

Technology Management 

  • Governance and oversight of Epic software lifecycle (SU, upgrade, environment planning) 

  • Ensure MSK Epic system integrity through deep knowledge of Epic system architecture, integrations (e.g., Rhapsody, HL7), and environment refresh strategy 

  • Direct responsibility for completion and success of complex quarterly Epic upgrades and monthly/weekly change control and release processes 

  • Ownership of disaster recovery and downtime readiness for Epic systems 

  • Collaboration with MSK Digital Informatics and Technology (DigITs) Teams managing infrastructure, mobile, endpoint, networking, and application security 

Vendor Management 

  • Builds and manages relationships with Epic system Hosting Team and other companies that supply products and services to MSK’s IT organization 

  • Ensures that vendors meet or exceed their contractual obligations by delivering quality products and services on time 

Project Management 

  • Manages complex systems projects requiring coordination of internal and external resources and schedules 

  • Documents established project plans, as well as changes and decisions made in the project plan 

  • Assigns and secures resources required for all phases of a project

  • Communicates progress and changes to all appropriate parties (e.g., management, users, vendors, staff, and other internal departments) through both formal and informal communication channels 

  • Establishes contingency plans when necessary and escalates problems/issues to appropriate levels of management for resolution 

  • Ensures delivery of successful project implementations and support according to plan 

  • Monitors progress on project plans by following up on assigned tasks against timelines to ensure project completion 

Leadership and Vision 

  • Strategic and operational leadership across multi-disciplinary technical teams 

  • Articulates and delivers vision for effective, usable, reliable, and safe Information Technology applications across Epic and non-Epic clinical and revenue cycle systems 

 

Key Qualifications 

  • Progressive IT leadership experience within large, complex healthcare organizations. 

  • Expertise in Epic infrastructure, environment strategy, and system integrations (e.g., Rhapsody, HL7). 

  • Proven success managing full Epic software lifecycles — upgrades, release management, and change control. 

  • Strong understanding of information security, server/network architecture, and disaster recovery readiness. 

  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor partnerships and ensuring performance against SLAs. 

  • Certifications related to Epic, infrastructure, operating systems, and project  management  

 

 Core Skills 

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align technology roadmaps with institutional goals. 

  • Skilled at leading multidisciplinary technical teams and fostering cross-functional collaboration. 

  • Strong project and program management capability; disciplined execution under complex timelines. 

  • Deep knowledge of data protection, regulatory compliance, and system resilience standards. 

  • Exceptional communicator able to translate technical concepts for executive, clinical, and operational leaders. 

  • Analytical problem-solver who anticipates risk, drives structured change control, and champions continuous improvement. 

 

Additional Information

  • Schedule: Hybrid: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, Monday – Friday with flexibility as need in New York City 

  • Reporting to VP, Epic Systems
