Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The MSK Westchester Clinical Lab is currently seeking an experienced Supervisor, Laboratory Medicine to primarily be responsible for the onsite supervision and operation.

Role Overview:

Administrative responsibilities -

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the clinical lab.

  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff, leadership, and Physicians/Director, patient care staff/clinicians, reference labs, and other business partners to optimize workflow while maintaining accreditation and licensure.

  • Personnel development, coaching, and mentoring of technical staff

  • Developing personnel goals, tasks, and service standards to set a high morale and motivation within the clinical lab

  • Maintaining training and competency files for staff members assigned to and rotating in your sections

  • Assist Leadership in:

  • Review and approval of new or revised documents, processes, test methods, and their validations

  • Monthly review of instrument maintenance, decontamination, and all completed compliance forms

  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining the SOP Manual; ensuring that written procedures are accurate, adherence to SOPs by staff, and that documents are placed in a controlled location

  • Assessing the impact of non-conformance events and complete full investigation to ensure they do not reoccur

Technical responsibilities -

  • Coordinating and supervising personnel in the technical operations of the Clinical lab on a day-to-day basis.

  • Ensuring that technical procedures are performed according to the SOP under the highest standards of quality in a timely manner.

  • Review documents for completeness

  • Scheduling of staff to ensure undisrupted operation

  • Review, reporting, and investigation of all non-conformance events.

  • Review of all completed result reports.

  • Participation in program improvement activities, recognition of learning needs, contributing ideas, recommendations, and concerns to improve management decision-making process

  • Oversee the performance of periodic equipment quality control and preventive maintenance procedures

  • Bench coverage when needed

Quality/Compliance -

  • Assist the Associate Director and Assistant Manager to guarantee compliance with local, State, and federal accrediting and regulatory organizations regarding all processes and patient sample testing, including compliance with OSHA, FDA, NYSDOH, Joint Commission, CLIA etc.

  • Performs audits of the clinical lab operation to ensure compliance with the laboratory’s quality/compliance program, standard operating procedures, and regulatory agencies. Communicates findings to the clinical lab Director/management team.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree clinical laboratory sciences.

  • 4+ years of proven experience required; Hematology experience preferred and strong personnel skills.

  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required.

  • ASCP preferred.

Core Skills:

  • Communication: Ability to compose written correspondence and to present information in a clear, concise manner.

  • Information Management: Ability to communicate, explain, interpret, share, and present information to employees, management, and clinical staff, as well as appropriate external contacts.

  • Time Management: Ability to set priorities among several tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines.

  • Location: MSK Westchester, 500 Westchester Ave, West Harrison, NY 10604

  • Hours: Monday - Friday 10AM-6PM; On call as needed

  • Reports to: Assistant Manager, Laboratory Medicine

Pay Range: $122,800.00-$196,500.00/annually
