About Us:
The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe.
The Molecular Diagnostics Service at MSK is a leading-edge clinical laboratory that develops and performs a wide range of sophisticated tests for comprehensive molecular profiling of tumors. The lab is best known for its development of two pioneering assays: MSK-IMPACT and MSK-ACCESS.
MSK-IMPACT is an FDA-authorized next-generation sequencing (NGS) test that analyzes both tumor and matched normal DNA to identify clinically actionable mutations. It has been used in over 40,000 patient cases at MSK, helping clinicians refine cancer diagnoses, guide personalized treatment decisions, and determine eligibility for clinical trials.
MSK-ACCESS is a liquid biopsy assay that detects circulating cell-free DNA in blood samples. This enables genomic characterization of cancers when tissue samples are unavailable and supports longitudinal monitoring of disease burden over time.
The Molecular Diagnostics Service is equipped with some of the most advanced robotic and automated instruments available, supporting both traditional molecular testing, high-throughput extraction, and high-throughput NGS workflows. These technologies ensure precision, efficiency, and scalability in delivering clinically meaningful insights that directly impact patient care.
