About Us:

The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe.

Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the Gladkova Lab as a Research Technician and play a role in launching a cutting-edge research lab! This is a rare opportunity to help shape the lab’s foundation while receiving scientific mentorship directly from the lab head. If you’re passionate about science, eager to grow, and ready to make an impact from the ground up – this is the role for you!

The Gladkova lab aims to uncover the principles that govern the shape, distribution, and movement of organelles, with the ultimate goal of understanding how organelle architecture supports cellular function. This is essential because defects in organelle maintenance cause neurodegeneration, and altered organelle architecture is a hallmark of many diseases, including cancer.

To discover the mechanisms and signals that control organelle architecture, we reduce cellular complexity by building synthetic organelle probes in living cells. These isolate specific organelle behaviours, for example, mitochondrial microtubule-based transport. We combine this in-cell reconstitution approach with traditional reconstitution methods (biochemistry, structural biology) and microscopy to study native organelles across different physiological contexts.

Role Overview:

  • Perform experiments under the lab head’s supervision: molecular biology, cell culture, light microscopy, biochemistry, western blotting. Maintain detailed experimental records.
  • Analyze experimental data and prepare figures for presentation to the broader scientific community.
  • Help set up laboratory organization and maintain laboratory databases, protocols, and equipment.
  • Provide assistance with other ongoing research as needed, and collaborate with colleagues from core facilities.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Background in molecular biology.

Core Skills:

  • Outstanding communication and self-awareness.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving to optimize efficiency.
  • Adaptability and resilience to lead change and innovation.
  • Collaboration and building trusting relationships.x

Additional Information:

  • Location: NYC; Rockefeller Research Laboratories
  • Schedule: 37.5 hours per week (onsite)
