Role Overview:
The Medical Assistant (MA) serves as a key member of the patient care team in the outpatient oncology setting. This position works closely with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience. The role involves a blend of clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinical practice.
This includes directing and assisting patients; taking vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height; pre-cleaning instruments for high-level disinfection/sterilization; monitoring and maintaining medical equipment and assisting clinical staff and responding to medical emergencies per protocol. Anticipates and manages patient flow and room utilization, exam room stocking, and preparing and assisting with patient exams and procedures.
Key Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, with graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and relevant specialized certifications.
National Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or registration by a recognized credentialing body such as:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through National Healthcare Association
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
Experience in blood draw/phlebotomy (infusion experience preferred)
Demonstrated strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Basic proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and email systems.
Previous experience in a medical assistant role within an outpatient setting is preferred.
Familiarity with OSHA standards and multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting is advantageous.
Core Skills:
Clinical Skills: Proficient in taking vital signs, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), assisting with physical exams and procedures, and managing patient specimens. Ability to respond to medical emergencies and handle point-of-care tests according to established protocols.
Patient Care: Ability to prepare and assist patients for visits and procedures, manage patient flow, and maintain effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.
Administrative Efficiency: Competent in tracking patient flow, documenting patient interactions, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to infection control and safety procedures, maintain cleanliness in patient care environments, and handle personal protective equipment and hygiene products effectively.
Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills, including proficiency with EMR systems (Epic preferred), and the ability to handle electronic documentation and communication tools
Pay Range: $23.54 - $35.44
