Role Overview:
: The Cook plays an essential role in the Food and Nutrition Department by ensuring that high-quality, safe, and nutritionally appropriate meals are prepared and delivered consistently. They support patient recovery by learning dietary requirements based on their medical conditions and provide high-quality meals for all guests in the cafeteria. A trained Cook ensures meals are not only appetizing but also tailored to therapeutic diets, which are vital to treatment plans, recovery and employee well-being. Our cooks maintain compliance with Health Codes and Regulations by assisting in meeting all health standards. This is maintained through proper food handling, sanitation, and temperature control—minimizing the risk of foodborne illness among a vulnerable population. The cooks ensure an efficient operation by preparing meals timely, efficient, and organized manner, which is crucial in a large patient population with multiple meal services per day. They also assist in reducing food waste by using batch cooking and portion control techniques that contribute to cost-effective operations. Food is a key part of the patient, guest and employee experience. Meals prepared with care and attention to flavor, texture, and presentation contribute to higher satisfaction scores, which can impact hospital ratings and patient trust. Beyond patients, the Cook also helps provide meals for staff and visitors, ensuring that all on-site individuals have access to safe and nutritious food options, critical for staff productivity and morale.
Key Qualifications:
- Prepare a variety of food items according to recipes, production sheets, and departmental standards.
- Showcase your versatility by managing multiple stations including grill, sauté, prep, salad, desserts, and more.
- Employ batch cooking techniques to ensure freshness, quality, and timely service.
- Maintain impeccable standards of food presentation and temperature control.
- Respond adeptly to last-minute and specialty orders with precision and efficiency.
- Operate kitchen equipment with care and promptly report any maintenance needs.
- Collaborate closely with supervisors and colleagues to ensure seamless workflow and exceptional culinary outcomes.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years of experience in fast-paced culinary environments such as restaurants, corporate dining, hotels, or quick-service restaurants.
- Demonstrated proficiency in various cooking techniques, knowledge of standard recipes, and working multiple stations including grill, sauté, fry, salad, dessert, and food prep.
- Clear understanding of food safety and sanitation practices, food quality, and presentation.
- Possession of a Food Handler’s Certificate, Certificate in Culinary Arts, and/or formal culinary training a strong plus. We are open to considering new culinary grads!
Core Skills:
- Ability to use floor cleaning equipment, stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend and push items, can lift a minimum of 30 lbs
- Basic computer knowledge

Pay Range: $26.21 - $39.24
