Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist
Join MSK as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to enhance the quality and accuracy of clinical documentation. Act as a critical link between healthcare providers, IT systems, and regulatory bodies to support accurate coding, patient care, and compliance. Help ensure documentation integrity, educate providers, and improve overall healthcare outcomes.
Role Overview:
- Improve the quality, accuracy, and completeness of clinical documentation to reflect patient acuity and risk of mortality.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, case managers, and patient care teams to gather precise clinical data.
- Assign working DRGs for inpatient discharges and ensure proper coding alignment.
- Query providers using approved processes to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
- Adhere to AHA ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and MSKCC internal policies.
- Educate and train physicians and advanced practice providers on best practices in clinical documentation.
Key Qualifications:
- RN/clinical experience in an inpatient setting with a deep understanding of patient care workflows.
- CDIP, CCDS, CCS certification or a valid medical license preferred.
- Experience with inpatient clinical coding and documentation improvement initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, coding compliance, and DRG assignment.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) software.
Core Skills:
- Excellent communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to interpret complex clinical data and translate it into accurate documentation.
- Strong analytical skills to identify gaps in documentation and recommend improvements.
- Proficiency in information management and compliance with ethical coding standards.
- Experience in training and mentoring providers on documentation best practices.

Schedule: Hybrid, primarily remote with flexibility to come on site 2 times a year

Pay Range: $100,600.00-$161,000.00
