Job details
The MSK Biobank and Pathology Core Facility is a centralized, comprehensive core facility for research involving human tissue. The research facility performs tissue sample procurement, histology, and immunohistochemistry services for MSK investigators and external collaborators. The Histology Core Laboratory provides project-specific consultation and expertise in tissue-based experimentation and assists with appropriate tissue selection and processing of fresh frozen and paraffin embedded tissues. Our team of technicians is experienced in a wide range of routine and special histology techniques, including sectioning of frozen and paraffin blocks.
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Histology Technician to join our active high-volume Research Histology Core Laboratory.
Role Overview:
- Embed tissue specimen using orientation techniques appropriate to the type of tissue.
- Cut paraffin and frozen sections.
- Stain and coverslip (manual and automated methods).
- Label slides, verify patient and specimen information.
- Prepare and maintain special solutions and reagents.
- Perform routine stains.
- Work on tissue microarrays and other technologies.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities.
- Help develop new research histology protocols and methods.
- Work well in a large team and communicate well.
- Ideal for highly motivated individuals with opportunity for academic development and growing responsibilities.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific field (biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, anatomy/physiology, or related fields).
Prior histology experience with tissue sectioning is preferred.
Formal licensing as a ASCP Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) is not required.
New York State certification and licensing is not required.

Range: Position level and salary depend on experience.
