Let's Get Started
Welcome to MSK! We are excited for you to join us. Before your start date, you’ll need to complete a few tasks as part of your onboarding.
The onboarding journey includes:
- 1. Completion of an MSK Application
- 2. Medical clearance for those who will be on site or hybrid
- 3. A virtual appointment with an HR Representative to verify your eligibility to work in the U.S.
- 4. Completion of all assigned digital tasks in our onboarding portal, iCIMS
- 5. Verification of your academic enrollment
The onboarding process generally takes at least 4 weeks.
Note: All students who will be physically working at an onsite MSK location one or more days must complete medical clearance.

Application
To start your Onboarding Journey, you’ll need to complete an onboarding application. We recommend you complete this as soon as possible to avoid a delay in your start date.

Medical Clearance
All students who will physically work at an onsite MSK location for one or more days must be medically cleared by our Employee Health office. To complete this requirement, you’ll need to schedule a physical exam with your personal doctor, your school’s health office, or any other outside clinic/provider. It is critical that you schedule this appointment as soon as possible, as this requirement can take about 3 weeks, start to finish.
Your Onboarding Coordinator will provide you with the paperwork that you need to bring to your appointment to be completed by the physician.

l9 Work Eligibility Verification
By law, all new hires must prove that they are eligible to work in the United States.
To complete this requirement, you’ll need to schedule and attend a virtual appointment with an HR representative to present hard copies of your unexpired work eligibility documents.

You will receive a “Welcome” email from your Onboarding Coordinator which includes a link to self-schedule your virtual I-9 appointment. When scheduling, please choose “Onboarding” in the drop down option of staff and choose a date/time as soon as possible that works for your schedule to avoid a delay in your start date. Your appointment should be scheduled no later than 1 week prior to your start date. Any questions, reach out to your Onboarding Coordinator or email onboarding@mskcc.org.
iCIMS Tasks
You will be assigned digital tasks in our onboarding portal, iCIMs. These tasks must be completed prior to your I-9 appointment.

Academic Enrollment Verification
All students working at MSK must provide documentation of enrollment for the upcoming school semester from their college/university or high school.
Please click here for more information and instructions on how to submit.
Please complete this task as soon as possible to avoid a delay in your start date. These documents should be emailed to your Onboarding Coordinator no later than 1 week prior to your start date.

Approved to Start
Your Onboarding Coordinator will email you when all your documentation has been received/reviewed and you are approved to start.
The start date assigned at the beginning of your onboarding journey is contingent on your timely completion of all onboarding requirements. If there is any delay in scheduling and attending appointments or completing any other tasks, your start date will be rescheduled, and you will be unable to start your internship until that date.
Be sure to reach out to your Onboarding Coordinator or onboarding@mskcc.org if you have any questions.
First Day of Work
Your hiring manager will let you know instructions for your first day of work. Please reach out to them if you are unsure of where to go on your start date.
On your first day, you’ll receive an email from infosec@mskcc.org to “claim your MSK account”. Please follow the instructions in the email in order to activate your MSK login credentials. This is the very first task to complete on your first day and will allow you to access all relevant MSK systems, including your MSK email account.
If you are going to be working onsite at one of our MSK locations, you will need to pick up your photo ID badge. Please coordinate a time with your manager to pick up your badge at the Security Office at 1275 York Ave in Manhattan.
Additional Help
The Onboarding Team is available to answer any questions Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM. Please reach out to your Onboarding Coordinator, or email onboarding@mskcc.org if you have any questions or need more information. All emails will be responded to within 24 hours, unless sent over the weekend – those emails will be responded to on Monday.
