MSK Recognized as a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality
For the eighth year in a row, MSK has been honored with leadership status in the 2020 LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), compiled by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The HEI is regarded as the national benchmarking tool for hospitals and healthcare institutions and their practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patients and employees.
MSK is proud to once again receive this distinction, which recognizes our dedication to offering compassionate, respectful care to all our patients.
Organizations are evaluated for the HEI based on five-core criteria:
Non-Discrimination and Staff Training
Patient Services and Support
Employee Benefits and Policies
Patient and Community Engagement
Responsible Citizenship
In satisfying these new objectives and criteria, MSK has earned its status as a leader in new areas of LGBTQ patient care. Additionally, MSK was one of only four cancer-specialty hospitals to receive the Leader designation (from a total field of 406). You can read the full report here.
This achievement represents the hard work of our staff — particularly Diversity & Inclusion, the LGBTQ+ Pride ERN, the HEI Taskforce, and allied individuals throughout the organization — to surpass rising industry standards and enable MSK to continue to be a leader for progressive change.
