What are the requirements for the CAP program?
  • Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor's or Associate’s Nursing Program
  • Completion of two (2) clinical semesters, including one semester in Med/Surg Nursing
  • Active BCLS Certification

We ask for a full-time commitment for 10 weeks from all program participants. Please discuss any extenuating commitments with the recruiter right away to determine if your participation in the program is possible.

CAP participants will work flexible schedules with 10 or 12 hour shifts and the opportunity to work weekends.

Yes, the program is open to students entering their final year in Bachelor and Associate Nursing programs as long as they meet all program requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor's or Associate’s Nursing Program
  • Completion of two (2) clinical semesters, including one semester in Med/Surg Nursing
  • Active BCLS Certification

Step 1: Interested students must complete the job application by November 15, 2023. Applications will be reviewed and moved forward in the order they are submitted.

Step 2: We will conduct interviews starting in mid-November.

Step 3: Final decisions will be made by mid-December

MSK’s talent acquisition specialists will work with each unit’s Nurse Leaders to select program participants.

  • Active enrollment in an undergraduate Nursing program
    • Students have the option to submit a copy of their official transcripts to indicate their enrollment for the upcoming semester or they may obtain a letter from their school’s Registrar’s office indicating that they have enrolled or will be enrolled in the upcoming semester.
  • Unexpired Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association
    • Obtain medical clearance by MSK’s Employee Health & Wellness team
      Vaccines are included in the medical clearance requirements. The flu vaccine is also included in this if we are in flu season.
  • Successful completion of all assigned onboarding tasks including the I-9 requirement with HR
    • For CAPs who will be hired into per diem nursing assistant roles, the above requirements need to be in place, as well as the additional items below:
      Background check
      Drug screening

Yes, you will have a preceptor. As a Magnet-designated institution, we are proud of our preceptors and mentors.

Yes, participants who are recommended by their Nurse Leader, can work per diem as a nursing assistant after the program ends.

We will extend offers to all CAP participants that are recommended by their Nurse Leader before the summer program ends. This offer will be contingent on graduation and NCLEX passing.

CAP offers opportunities to connect with other program participants and meet hospital leaders including MSK’s CEO, Dr. Selwyn M. Vickers.

Yes, rates for the 2024 program are not yet available, but the 2023 rate was $19.65 per hour.
