Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Biobank and Pathology Core is seeking a Supervisor/Manager to oversee the Biofluids Division a high-volume operation supporting cancer researchers across MSK through the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of blood, urine, bone marrow, and other liquid research samples from patients. This role is responsible for the overall management of laboratory operations, staff, quality programs, and service delivery. The Supervisor/Manager will supervise a team of laboratory professionals, ensure efficient and compliant laboratory operations, partner with investigators on research needs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support the Core's mission.
Role Overview:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Biofluids Laboratory, ensuring high-quality specimen processing and exceptional service to investigators.
- Manage, mentor, and develop laboratory staff, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, scheduling, training, and career development.
- Oversee laboratory, expenditures, cost recovery, equipment purchases, vendor relationships, inventory management, and resource planning.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, quality standards, safety requirements, and institutional policies.
- Serve as the primary operational and technical resource for staff and investigators regarding specimen processing workflows and protocol implementation.
- Evaluate requests for new projects, workflow modifications, and protocol deviations, partnering with Core Leadership, core Project Management team, and investigators to determine operational feasibility.
- Work with stakeholders to identify workflow deviations; review and assist with the development of Laboratory Manuals for core-supported studies
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust quality program for the laboratory in partnership with core leadership and quality resources.
- Develop and monitor quality assurance metrics, operational dashboards, and performance reports.
- Support implementation of new technologies, assays, workflows, and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist investigators with project planning, grant-related documentation, and core service capabilities.
- Serve as a liaison between laboratory staff, Core Project Management team, institutional stakeholders, and Core leadership.
- Coordinate with and serve as coverage for supervisors/managers from other areas of the Core facility.
- Present Core capabilities and services to research teams and collaborators.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in a research laboratory, biobank, pathology, or core facility environment.
- Previous experience leading laboratory operations and supervising scientific or technical staff.
- Experience managing budgets, laboratory resources, equipment, and operational planning.
- Knowledge of biospecimen processing, quality systems, regulatory compliance, and research support services.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hrs.
