GENERAL CLEANING/ SEVEN STEP CLEANING
Time: 40%As applicable:
• Follows seven-step cleaning sequence of activities as applicable (i.e. high dust, damp wipe, clean bathroom, remove trash, replenish supplies, clean floors, inspect) to ensure that cleaning work results in expected outcome.
• Cleans assigned areas to a satisfactory standard.
• Completes daily assignments in an efficient manner utilizing for each task the appropriate and departmentally approved equipment and supplies.
• Implements modification to cleaning procedure for specific areas (e.g. use of bleach as an additional disinfecting step) as directed by supervisor.
• Maintains equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Replaces cubicle curtains following departmental policy and procedures.
• Follows bed tracking workflows when assigned to inpatient room cleaning and ensures response times are within established parameters.
• Cleans and disinfects clinical and non-clinical equipment and appliances in designated areas as applicable (i.e. crash cart equipment, microwaves, refrigerators, etc.).
• Completes non routine tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager.
WASTE HANDLING
Time: 20%As applicable:
• Removes trash (clear bag waste, cardboard, paper, bottles and cans) from assigned areas and replenish liners when applicable using the correct size and type of waste bag.
• Ensures waste bags removed have no leaks; spot-checks all clear bags thoroughly to determine whether regulated medical waste (i.e. blood-soaked material, chemotherapy waste) or sharp objects (i.e. needles, scalpels, scissors) are present; notifies supervisor immediately if found.
• Ensures that trash cans and recycling bins in assigned areas are emptied before reaching capacity throughout shift.
• Damp wipes with germicidal solution trash receptacles inside and outside.
• Removes soiled linen from all areas where collected (i.e. exam rooms, chemo, changing areas, soiled rooms etc.).
• Removes and exchanges sharps and chemo containers from rooms as needed to designated service area for pick-up.
• Keeps recycling bins containing patient and other confidential information locked at all times.
• Breaks up and compacts boxes daily.
• Follows procedures for checking ALL waste for low levels of radiation (i.e., passes scintillator completely around); discards radioactive waste appropriately; always notifies supervisor if radiation is detected. As required, holds radioactive waste until completely decayed, monitoring daily to determine level of radioactivity.
INFECTION CONTROL / SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Time: 20%As applicable:
• Follows safety procedures and precautions to protect others from danger (e.g. placing wet floor signs to signal hazardous conditions).
• Wears appropriate attire for specific cleaning procedures.
• Changes uniform daily; drops off and picks up uniform for cleaning weekly on assigned day. Changes uniform immediately after coming into contact with blood or bodily fluid.
• Washes hands after isolation, cleaning chemotherapy and blood spills, after removing gloves, before eating and after using restroom.
• Places 2% CHG soap in all direct patient care areas and checks expiration date on containers. Disposes of expired soap.
• Uses disposable cleaning towels when cleaning all exam and chemotherapy rooms.
PROJECT WORK / PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
Time: 20%As applicable:
• Performs project work (e.g., strips and refinishes floors, cleans rugs, washes walls, scrubs shower floors, cleans elevator tracks, steam cleans furniture and rolling stock, dusts light diffusers) using appropriate equipment and supplies as directed.
• Performs snow removal and sidewalk washing if applicable.
• May be asked to clean food pantry areas depending on assigned location.
• Assists with moves as requested by move requisition memo within established timeframe; replaces beds as requested and ensures beds are in good working order; ensures all furniture has been emptied; reports inappropriate requests (e.g., items to be moved that are not emptied, unauthorized add-ons to move requisition memo, objects too large such as full size refrigerators) to supervisor.
• Performs operating room cycle cleaning project work as assigned by supervisor (e.g., wall washing, floor/shower scrubbing).
• Responds to pest control requests, including placing and removing of appropriate traps for specific issues or performing vacuum/steam cleaning treatment. Treats assigned areas utilizing the most appropriate and efficient treatment method or combination of as identified by lead or supervisor.
Pay Range: $22.42 - $28.77
