Exciting Opportunities at MSK: Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist & Clinical Documentation Integrity Liaison
At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), our commitment to excellence extends beyond patient care—we also strive to ensure that our clinical documentation reflects the highest standards of accuracy, integrity, and quality. We are anticipating openings for two roles on our Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) team: CDI Specialist and CDI Liaison. Both positions support MSK’s mission of improving care outcomes, strengthening financial sustainability, and ensuring compliance through accurate medical documentation.
Role Overview – Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
Facilitate improvements to the quality and completeness of clinical documentation
Collaborate with physicians, APPs, case managers, and allied health professionals to ensure documentation accurately reflects severity of illness and risk of mortality
Perform record abstraction, coding, and data collection to support reimbursement, quality initiatives, and performance improvement
Query providers to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation prior to code assignment
Educate providers and staff on documentation guidelines, coding requirements, and regulatory changes
Participate in clinical validation denials review and value measurement/financial sustainability projects
Role Overview – Clinical Documentation Integrity Liaison
Act as liaison between CDI, coding, providers, and other teams to facilitate accurate clinical documentation
Assists CDI manager with ongoing quality assurance reviews of clinical documentation staff, ad hoc, and special project reviews requiring advanced CDI and coding knowledge
Audit medical records to ensure accurate DRG optimization, severity of illness, and overall documentation quality
Orients/trains new CDI staff as needed
Develop and deliver CDI-related education and training for providers, coders, and staff
Interpret and translate complex clinical information into coding/CDI concepts and recommendations
Support compliance by ensuring documentation practices align with regulatory guidelines and MSK standards
Key Qualifications for CDI Specialist
Experience in clinical documentation, coding, or revenue cycle management (inpatient and/or outpatient) preferred
Current nursing (RN) license with bachelor’s degree in nursing or other related field, and/or graduate education leading to Physician Assistant (PA) with current PA license, and/or graduate education leading to MD, DO or equivalent degree
Clinical experience in the acute care setting
Coding certifications (CCS, CCDS, RHIA, RHIT) highly valued • Experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS coding/ DRG assignment preferred
Strong collaboration, communication, and education/training skills for working across clinical and non-clinical groups
Additional Qualifications for CDI Liaison
2+ years experience in inpatient clinical documentation integrity and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding/ DRG assignment
ACDIS Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
Master’s degree in nursing with advanced practice license and experience preferred
Core Skills
Advanced knowledge of clinical documentation standards, coding requirements, and regulatory guidelines
Analytical ability to identify trends, assess risks, and improve documentation quality
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills for provider education and team collaboration
Proficiency with health information systems, Excel, and medical record abstraction tool
Additional Information:
Schedule: Hybrid; 99% remote with flexibility a few times a year in NYC
Compensation:
Specialist: $100,600 - $161,000
Liaison: $111,600 - $178,600
Pay Range: $100,600.00 - $161,000.00
FSLA Status: Exempt
