2nd Year Named a Best Place to Work in IT by Computerworld
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has once again been selected as one of the Best Places to Work in IT by Insider Pro and IDG Computerworld. MSK ranked number 33 among large size organizations. Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual Best Places to Work in IT feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training, and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
We asked members of our DigITS team, what they love about working at MSK. Here are their responses:
“There is a sense of quiet excellence that runs through everything we touch while doing IT work for MSK. Its not brash, its not overbearing, its just the underlying perception that we all have a purpose, we are all going to push each other to do the best work we know how to do, and that we are here for each other should the need arise. There is no other place I have worked thus far that couples this drive for professional brilliance with such a permeating aura of devotion to a grander mission.” - Omar Sangurima, Security Analyst
“Although not everyone is pictured, the curriculum kickoff was a great success thanks to the hard work and support from everyone who volunteered and took part in building the sessions.” - Ava Cazabonnet, Project Coordinator
“I wanted to improve the quality of my career, and part of that was researching and working for highly rated companies. MSK is certainly one of the best. Besides the general sense that people enjoy working here, and that we are working on an important mission, one finds a diverse workforce, strong female leadership, an organization committed to developing its staff, and management concerned with its employees' welfare. For myself, I've been given opportunities to learn, to take classes, and to develop my skills, within an organization devoted to growth and improvement. Undoubtedly, the quality of my life has improved since I started working at MSK.”- James Igoe, Senior Software Developer
“I am proud to be part of DigITs, which is a truly progressive-minded technology division at MSK, and one of the most collaborative communities I’ve seen in my career. We are continuously seeking new technologies, as well as innovative techniques, to aid in the treatment and prevention of cancer. Since I’ve joined, we have successfully adopted new agile ways of working, while still managing to keep our eyes on the products and services that will deliver the most value to our customers. My daily work involves partnering with staff across the organization, all of whom are intelligent, courteous, down-to-earth, and all equally energized to deliver on our mission. One of my best overall experiences so far was our September 2019 Hackathon. MSK employees from many different departments, with a variety of skill sets and diverse areas of expertise, participated in the event. Over the span of 2 days, these newly formed teams were able to generate and present amazing prototypes, some of which we are currently implementing today. This culture of excellence which promotes innovation through collaboration is just one of the reasons why my MSK pride runs strong.” - Genevie Peters, IS Project Manager
We extend a very special thank you to all of our IT staff for this recognition, which reflects our shared sense of mission-driven purpose.
