As one of the world’s premier oncology centers, MSK is committed to exceptional patient care, leading-edge research, and superb educational programs. The close collaboration between our physicians and scientists is one of our unique strengths, enabling us to provide patients with the best care available today as we work to discover more effective strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer in the future. The MSK Library is a continuously evolving facility and virtual library, supporting physicians, researchers, nurses, health care professionals, students, and our patient community.

We are seeking an energetic, articulate, and well-organized individual to assume the management and daily operations required to support Synapse (, our database of MSK publications. This involves providing leadership to a team of three librarians to add new and retrospective content each month, work with database vendors and strive to enhance this resource by building relationships across the institution to align the goals for Synapse with those producing research.

In addition, this role is a team leader for complex scholarly communication and technology-related projects and supports the library’s virtual presence.


  • Master’s degree in Library Science required (ALA accredited program)
  • Four to seven years in Library and Information Management with an emphasis on utilization of information technologies
  • Relevant experience with databases/institutional repositories related to published literature, specifically science and medicine
  • Experience or familiarity with HTML, CSS, and related web technologies
  • Some experience with database procedures and relational database design; basic working knowledge of SQL
  • Some knowledge of technology and standards related to digital libraries, i.e. OpenURL, Metadata, OAI, MARC, Dublin Core
  • Exposure to Link Resolver Technology; familiarity with ILLiad or other electronic interlibrary loan software; familiarity with remote user authentication
  • Demonstrated proficiency with key medical resources such as Scopus, Web of Science, BIOSIS Citation Index, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Bibliographic Management tools (e.g. EndNote)
  • Ability to perform detailed analytical work and demonstrate effectiveness in problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals include physicians, researchers, nurses, students, librarians, information providers and publishers
  • Awareness of trends in scholarly communications in the sciences, emerging technologies, bibliometrics, and the research workflow
  • Adaptable to changing work environments and departmental priorities
